Howdy all
I´m at a real computer now which is a luxury! I have reposted the the blogs that I put up on facebook for anyone who isn´t on my FB page! So I´m now in Santo Domingo on a lovely cool day. Sincve my last post I´ve had some insanely difficult walks. The first was a 28.5km walk from Los Arcos to Logrono followed by a 31km journey from Logrono to Najerra. I´ll admit that I cried as I entered Najerra after a 9hr stage over stoney paths and a few too may hill climbs for my liking! My feet were in so much pain so every 4 or so km I had to stop and massage them and make sure the bones weren´t too crushed. But I got there in the end and was terribly proud of myself even though I could barely lift the cool glass of rjoca to my mouth! nothing better than a beer or cool red wine after a suanter through Spain. The scenary has been spectacular to say the least with mountains in the distance and wheat fields and vineyards either side of the path. Today´s walk was amere 21km and I practically skipped all the way it seemed so easy! I rewarded myself with a breakfast of Two chocolate croissants and a coffee after the first 7km which I completed in just over an hour…and yes that´s with a back pack!! Watch out Dad, I´ll be racing you non the beach walk when I get home!! The weather was perfect for walking today with clouds and cool breeze so a short day has been good. I promised an update on some of the people I´ve met so far on the Camino so here goes:
Firstly and update on the Jacket and Veneer form last post – the Jacket has left the Camino after a crisis of consceince but venner found solace in a Brazilian walking pal. my spies tell me they have now parted ways but I will keep you updated!!
The Frenchies # 1- although there are a load of French people these ladies are great. They would be in their late 60s and have been walking for 5 weeks so far from Le Puy. When one of the retired a few years ago she bought herself a backpack and travelled South America for 7 months on her own!!
The Frenchies #2 – this couple live in northern France. They walked out their front door with a pack each and some camping gear and have been walking through France into Spain for the last 66 days.
Obnoxiously loud Texan woman – This says it all….you could 5kms away and she would n´t shut up, so I spent a good proportion of one day trying to get wawy from her which was difficult when I could walk let alone run!! She is ahead of me now I think, but i did pray in every church I passed that I would not have to see or hear again!
my current walking buddy is from Belgium and she started in france 4 weeks ago. We keep the same pace and its nice to have someone to chat to if I feel like talking!
my internet is about to run, so I´ll sign off now and I´ll try to keep you all updated as I go. I hope you are enjoying the photos etc….love you Cathy xxx
Heh Cath, dickheads everywhere eh!
I met a Spanish guy named Louis (from Barcelona and doing a post doc at Rmit) today who said his friend Nieves (a girl whose name means snow in Spanish) started the Camino about a week ago from the same area as you. Keep an eye/ear out. You might bump into her! Loving the blogs! Look after those little feet of yours. Susie xxxxxx
